Dr. Warren Burke
Dr. Warren Burke was born in Greenville, SC, the son of local
factory workers. His grandfather taught him how to ride
horses at an early age. As a young boy, Dr. Burke loved
being around horses, eventually getting a job cleaning stalls
and grooming horses as a way to get to ride them at a local
horse park.
In
1972, Dr. Burke graduated from the Tuskegee Institute with
a veterinary degree and a pre-internship at Cornell and an
internship at the University of California. Eventually,
he moved back to Greene County, SC where he was the
track veterinarian at Greenetrack.
Throughout
the 1980's and 1990's, Dr. Burke began competing in equestrian
competitions. He started showing Tennessee Walkers and
competed very heavily. He has won numerous ribbons with
a black registered Tennessee Walker name Ace's Equalizer.
Today
he is an equine veterinarian and chief medical officer for
the U.S. Department of Agriculture for the Tuscaloosa area.
Recently,
Dr. Burke participated in the 2001 New Year's Day Rose Bowl
Parade with the Los Angeles-bases New Buffalo Soldiers.
