Today's
Buffalo Soldier is likely to be a policeman, teacher, manager,
business man, computer programmer or a professional.
He is fiercely devoted to his community as his predecessors
were to their mission.
The
Greater Atlanta Area Chapter 9th and 10th (Horse) Cavalry,
10th Cavalry Troop "A" is composed of volunteers
whose sole desire is to perpetuate the proud history and
legacy of those men whose shoulders we now stand upon. We
realize that many of the problems faced by today's youth
stem from a lack of self esteem. A lack of knowledge
is a sure way to rob a young person of a sense of self worth.
This problem is compounded by the one-sided portrayal of
African-Americans in history, movies and television.
Today's
Buffalo Soldier can be seen at schools, parades, rodeos and
other community based activities that provide us with a forum
for the enlightenment of all people.
If
we can give one young person a sense of pride in themselves,
if we can instill the code of ethics and moral decency embraced
by the Buffalo Soldiers, if one child grows up to be a drug
free adult because of our efforts, then we have achieved a
major victory.
